Author: Fiona Muller Now is the time to throw out all your black, brown and grey clothes (well not literally throw them out but resign them to the back of your wardrobe until next winter at least) and to start to embrace a new you as we welcome in Spring and start to think about Summer holidays. Indeed this year - colour is the new black.
When you are planning your wardrobe for 2009 think of colour. More and more colours are appearing on the high street and probably because we are in the throws of a recession they look good. Colour is something that we need to give our lives some pizzazz and take us out of the doldrums of everyday life. Even if you have a limited budget - invest in one colourful piece and you will be surprised as to how it brightens up your day.
Think of long flowing skirts and trousers in fine cotton and linen and beautifully fitted dresses and tunics in candy colours which are tempting you to try them out.
But I hear you say, What about work? I can not wear clothes to work that are coloured so brightly . Why not? Just because something is in a bright colour doesn't make you any less professional - it isn't any less smart. We have sine the late 1970's and 1980's been under the illusion that in order to look smart you have to wear black. Well now Is the time to beat that myth into the ground and wise up to the fact that dressing in a masculine style does not necessarily suit everyone nd definitely isn't the only way to look smart. In face looking colourful and feminine is not a crime - just because you are wearing something colourful doesn't mean that you have left your brain at home.
So what should you be looking out for to put a bit of colour into your wardrobe? Well classic pieces of clothing such as linen trousers look great in bright colours, work with a loose top or tunic they are comfortable in hot weather. Another classic summer garment is a free flowing skirt which looks great with a vest top on a beach and is good to keep you cool.
But the colour doesn't have to stop with the main piece of the outfit. Accessorise your outfits with jewellery and scarves to complete the look and if you really can't move away from neutral colours this is the ideal way to add colour to your look.
