When focusing on your customer base, there are two options. If you run a pet grooming home business, it will attract local people who own a dog or cat in your area. So you will want your customer base to be all local people. On the other hand, if you are selling toys at home, your customers can be anywhere in the world. Thus your customer base is people around the world. So the first step is to decide who your customers are.
After you have decided who your customers are, you may proceed to second step which is finding the right gender and age group for your home business. You might also look for things like ethnic groups, if your business is producing products especially for one group of people. What ever product you are offering, there should be a target group of people who are interested to buy it. Your target group can be business men, cat owners, or people with children. What ever type of business you are running, you want to focus on a target group of people that have the interest to buy your products or try for your services.
Once you have narrowed down your customer base as much as possible, you may start working on other things. The first thing that you need to start doing is find out what types of advertising and promotion methods you can use to attract your target customers. This is an important thing you must do because you might be able to find the advertising methods that not only can solidify your customer base but also can increase your customers from time to time. If you want to attract local people to your business, then you should use local advertising methods, such as posters or flyers or radio spots. If your target customers are people around the world, Internet advertising is your best choice. It is one of the cheapest ways to reach large group of people world wide.
No matter what marketing and advertising strategies you want to use for your customer base, you should be able to find advertising that meets your business needs and allows you to reach your target customers as soon as possible.
