Author: Andre Garcia A person should be able to trust in a physician and many people do. Most doctors are very good caretakers of the ill, but why do people just take
the physician's word for it? Is it because they are the professional? Yes, they are the professional but they are also human and human make accidental
errors. If we are to make a large purchase, often times we consult with the person we are interested in purchasing from as well as researching the
information they tell us is fact before we buy. So why do we not research into the care of our medical ailments? Some people already do this very thing -
they have taken back their right to have continued knowledge about their medical condition or conditions. This probably a wise decision since recent light
has shown that pharmaceutical companies have been pressuring physicians to push the latest and newest drug of theirs. Many news articles have
reported that the latest and newest medication was not always the optimal medication the patient could have been taking for their ailment. If we take the
time to do a little research, we may be helping ourselves to feel better, choose the best medication for us as an individual and even decide on whether
surgery is necessary. Of course discussing these findings with one's physician is still recommended. If perhaps your physician is trying to give you a
medication, but you have done your research, maybe you can provide another option that would be better for you. Be sure to listen to the doctor if they
mention anything that you did not come across through research and then make your informed decision. If the doctor is not willing to hear about other
options, this may be a sign to find a doctor that will work with you to make a healthier you. Medical books can be found in many locations in order to do
research. Make sure you are researching current books, media and articles when finding information - something ten years ago could be looked at very
differently today by medical experts than it was at that time. Hospital libraries can most likely prove to have current books and media to look through.
Often there is a hospital librarian or a volunteer that can help a person to find the information they are looking for more easily. If there is not a hospital
library look into the medical reference section of your local library and of course the librarian there will be happy to help you. If you are fortunate to live
near a medical school, you should be able to do research in the school's library of medical knowledge. Beware of the vast amounts of medical
information there is, it can be intimidating but your health depends on your expanded knowledge. Perhaps in doing research through the endless supply of
medical books, journals, magazines and other references, you be learn other amazing things that can be shared with friends or family or other things you
can do to keep yourself in better health. Another way to gain medical knowledge is to consider buying some reference materials. Check out used book
stores, college book stores, online book discounters or even online auctions for a more affordable way to purchase current and relevant publications.
With the help of medical books you can grab the reins of your own health and take it where you and your doctor can decide the best direction to follow in
caring for your health. Let yourself guide your health rather than leaving it to the medical giants awaiting only your money.
