In the long term there is a potential for the loss of nipple or breast sensation and wrinkling of the skin may occur at the top of the chest. Also, scar tissue may form around the implant leading to a hardening of the breast. The individual will most likely undergo secondary surgeries and visit their surgeon often to assess the integrity of the implants. Eventually the implants will need to be removed or replaced as they are not meant to be permanent. These complications could result in poor wound healing, leading to a longer recovery time, increased scarring, and in clotting which could lead to more drastic cardiovascular and pulmonary complications.
